Mrs. Max Grayson Fatally Burned Last Friday Evening

Mrs. Max Grayson, 21, died in the Primghar Hospital Saturday afternoon as a result of burns suffered from a kerosene explosion in her home Friday evening.

She was preparing supper in the tenant house on the farm of Andrew Ohme, where her husband was employed, when she accidentally spilled a can of kerosene sitting on top of the stove onto the hot range. Instantly, she was a mass of flames. She carried her two small boys, 2 and 3 years of age, out of the house and then wrapped herself in blankets to extinguish the fire. Afterwards she called the Ohme house by telephone and was taken to the hospital. Her husband was away at the time.

Obituary

Mrs. Esther Grayson, nee Mesner was born on March 26, 1917. She was received into holy baptism by the Rev. F.W. Potratz. She attended our parochial school and on March 29, 1931, the day of her confirmation, she made a vow with her Lord and Savior to remain a steadfast member of the Lutheran church until her death. She was 21 years, 9 months and five days of age.

On January 31, 1936 she entered holy wedlock with Max Grayson. To this union were born two children, Richard James and Bernadette John.

Her body was laid to rest in St. John's cemetery on Tuesday afternoon. The Rev. W.H. Jurgens officiated at the service using for his text Psalm 90, showing that our days are numbered by an infallible God and that it behooves man to apply his heart into wisdom.

Those left to mourn her death are her husband, Max Grayson, two children, her parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Mesner, Sr., six brothers, one step brother, one sister and three step sisters.
