Helen Jane Mesner Crabbe, age 96, of Hagerstown, MD, formerly of Aberdeen, NC, died Thursday, April 3, 2014 at Meritus Medical Center in Hagerstown, MD.

Helen was born on April 8, 1917, in Berkeley Springs, to the late James Heggy Mesner and Lillie Louisa Newell Mesner.

She was of the Protestant faith. She graduated from Berkeley Springs High School in 1933, and was a graduate of Strayer Business College in Baltimore, MD. Helen married Richard Crabbe in November, 1940; they were married over 67 years until his death in 2007. Helen worked as a secretary and partnered with her husband in several independent business ventures. She was a talented quilter, seamstress and craftswoman and belonged to quilting clubs in North Carolina and Smithsburg, MD.

She is survived by her brother Jack Heggy Mesner and wife Pat, of Hagerstown, MD, nieces Jane Mesner Clipp and husband Al of Martinsburg, WV, Mary Jo Mesner Saum of Hagerstown, MD, and nephew Steven Heggy Mesner and wife Luvy of Maugansville, MD. Also surviving is a number of nieces and nephews by marriage as well as great nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, Helen was predeceased by a brother, Owen James Mesner.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 26, 2014 at Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 95 Union Street, Berkeley Springs, WV with Pastor Al Clipp officiating where friends may call from 10:00 – 11:00 A.M. Private interment will be in Greenway Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Hospice of Washington County, 747 Northern Avenue, Hagerstown, MD 21742.
