Rites Held For Mrs. Hallie Bard
Final rites were conducted Wednesday afternoon at the Miller & Sons Funeral Home for Mrs. Hattie D. Bard, age 78, widow of the late John A. Bard, former local jeweler.
Mrs. Bard had been in failing health for several months after suffering a serious of strokes and entered the hospital the last little two weeks before her death.
Born in Parke County, she was a daughter of Freemont and Purtina Watt Miller, who moved to Brazil in 1908. Following her marriage to John Bard, they established their home at 121 E. Chestnut, at the corner of Indiana Ave.
For many years, Mr. Bard operated the Bard Jewelry Store at 3 E. National Ave., in the room now occupied by the Chaney Jewelry. He died in 1950.
Mrs. Bard was a member of the Carbon Methodist Church but in later years attended the First Methodist Church of this city. She was a member of the Tower Room. Sunday school class of the local church and was also a member of the Women's Auxiliary of the Spanish American War Veterans.
Surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Minnie Wells, Carbon and Mrs. Carrie L. Smith, Brazil, and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
Burial was in Cottage Hill Cemetery.
