Our beloved Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother, and Great-Great-Grandmother, Irene A. Cockrum, passed away on Thursday, June 23, 2016, at a local care facility.

Irene was born on December 2, 1920, in Manchester, Oklahoma to Fred Gibson Miller and Ethel Gertrude Morrow Miller. She was the younger of two children. She graduated from the 8th grade in Alva, Oklahoma before moving with her maternal grandparents to Idaho. Her mother and brother followed a year later. Irene attended Boise High School and later became a licensed beautician in Boise

Irene married Thomas Jay Nichols in 1939. They were married 29 years and raised four children before he died in 1968. She married Alfred E. Cockrum in 1970. They were married 11 years until his death in 1981.
Irene worked for years at Latah Rexall Drug, located at Overland and Vista Roads. She later worked in downtown Boise at Ford Drug until her retirement in 1980. She was a caring person who enjoyed volunteer service at the VA Medical Center and the Idaho State Veterans Home. She was honored at a Volunteer Luncheon in 2008 for 10,000 volunteer hours at the VA Medical Center. In addition, she spent countless hours at the Idaho State Veterans Home helping serve meals, pushing wheelchairs, and helping with other needs while she was visiting her son, Merle A. Nichols, who lived at the ISVH for seven years and who later died at the VA Medical Center in 2006. Irene continued with her volunteer service until her health limited her activities.
I
rene was preceded in death by her parents, a brother (Glendean), two husbands, and her son, Merle, who was the youngest child. She is survived by three daughters, Lauretta J. Gray (Charles); Peggy A. Cherry (Dennis) and Carol L. Hyatt (Augie) and numerous grandchildren great grandchildren and a great-great granddaughter.

We will miss her presence in our lives.

Irene was the last of her generation.

Visitation will be on Wednesday, June 29, 2016, from 6-8 pm at Cloverdale Funeral Home.

A graveside service will take place on Thursday, June 30, 2016 at 1:00 pm at Cloverdale Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Irene's memory may be made to the Idaho State Veterans' Home, The Idaho Humane Society, or to a favorite charity .
