Vera was born in Pingree, South of Sandburn, North Dakota, to Steve and Julia Miller on August 6, 1916. An energetic love for nature that Vera would capture in her artistic talents was evident at youth.
She married her favorite guitar-playing cowboy, Roy Gethman in 1937 and would live with Roy on Roy's fathers homestead ranch in N.D. until they moved to Portland, Oregon and then the Treasure Valley in 1957. They had three daughters; Pauline, Donna and MarGene, all eventually living in the valley.
Vera's self-taught natural talents were the combination of many attributes that made her good art, great. Her love for God and His creation were her inspiration, spending untold hours at the easel.
Her favorite medium was sculpting with clay. In her career, Vera designed for the Wahpeton Rosemead Co in N.D. and Olympia Mold Co. She joined ‘The Nampa Art Guild' where for some years, taught art classes. Vera's career was long and wide, receiving awards. She sold her paintings throughout the U.S. and Canada.
After Roy passed in 1986, Vera studied, taking a correspondence course on writing for children's books. She loved writing about a much simpler time, of the years she dearly loved.
The Lord was her pilot on the sea of life. Vera and Roy never wavered in their Christian commitment, from the time of their conversion, right after their marriage.
Vera is survived by her two daughters, Donna Fiedler and husband, Cord, of Nampa, and MarGene Wilson and husband, Ian, of Boise; four grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Gethman, daughter, Pauline Wood, her parents, and brothers, Kermit and Mervin Miller.
A memorial service will be held Tuesday, August 21, 2012 at 11 am at Alsip and Persons Funeral Chapel, 404 10th Ave. So., Nampa.
