Our beloved Marlene has passed away. Marlene M. Baiza passed away on July 19, 2004. She was born to Doyle and Irene Moody on March 29, 1958.
Her parents have predeceased her. She was a loving and caring daughter. She did everything in her power to ensure that her father lived as well and as long as possible in his battle with cancer. She was a true advocate and loving daughter to her mother. Marlene was known to visit her mother just about every day at Westgate Gardens. Marlene would make home-cooked meals and take them to her mother. Marlene would play cards with her mother almost every night, a favorite pastime of her mother. Marlene was also well known by other residents of Westgate Gardens because she would show kindness to them and often help them with problems or requests.
Marlene is survived by her husband, Adam A. Baiza, Jr.; her in-laws, Adam D. Baiza and Sophie A. Baiza. She is also survived by her brother, Milton Moody. She is survived by numerous cousins. She had a special relationship with her cousin, Kenneth Moody of Long Beach, Calif. Marlene had three friends who were like sisters to her: Sharon Brazil, Jan Hayes and Dana Dyar. Sharon's three daughters would refer to Marlene as Auntie Marlene. Marlene had a special bond with her cousin Ken and friends Sharon, Jan and Dana.
Marlene was especially loving and helpful to her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Adam and Sophie. She would do anything to make their daily lives easier. They adored their "Mar" and will forever carry her spirit in their hearts.
Marlene was born in Linwood, Calif. Her family moved to Tulare County when Marlene was a young girl. The family resided first in Farmersville and then moved to Visalia. Marlene attended local schools and excelled with high grades. She was active with school activities and clubs. Marlene is a graduate of Redwood High School and attended College of the Sequoias.
Marlene worked locally after graduating from high school. She will be remembered for her work in the title and escrow business. She was a Realtor and also started a foreclosure business.
In 1983 Marlene and Adam were married. Marlene was a devoted and loving wife to Adam. They promised each other to always treat each other with respect, love and kindness. They were true loves and it was rare that they were ever apart.
Following the real estate business, Marlene started law school. She graduated from William Howard Taft School of Law, passed the California State Bar examination and began a legal partnership (Baiza and Baiza) with her husband. They agreed to never discuss their cases after working hours at home but on occasion they did anyway. She was a wonderful business partner to Adam. Adam would often say that he was the luckiest man in the world in that he could work every day with a magnificent partner and then go home with that same wonderful person. They would never tire of each other; they were true loving partners, soul mates and best friends. Many times after work, they would sit down next to each other in their recliners, hold hands and state that this was the best day of their lives and the best time of the day.
Marlene was a gifted lawyer. She always gave special focus and attention to the needs of her clients. Marlene was a member of the California State Bar Association and of the Tulare County Bar Association. Besides the partnership with her spouse, she was a contract attorney for the Tulare County Legal Aid office for a number of years. She also gave many hours of free legal services to the Legal Aid office.
Marlene was a person of many talents. She loved the arts. She performed in high school as a singer. She loved to paint; was a great dancer and loved music. She was a fantastic cook. On days when she would become frustrated with a legal case, she would often tell Adam that they should open a bakery so that she could bake cookies. After her marriage to Adam, Marlene became an avid baseball and basketball fan and together they would attend many sporting events. Marlene adored cats. Throughout her life she always had a cat. One of her favorites was an alley cat named Buckwheat who Marlene saved from starvation when he was a kitten. They spent much time together when Marlene was doing her law school studying.
The Baiza family would like to extend a special thanks to Marlene's oncology physician, Dean Hsu, M.D. Dr. Hsu was so very caring, kind and professional to all the medical needs of Marlene. Marlene had many wonderful discussions with him over the last two years that helped her to understand, cope and feel better about her situation. Further, we thank all the staff at the Sequoia Regional Cancer Center, especially Marlene's nurse, Senovia Banuelos. We thank all the caring staff at Kaweah Delta Hospital, Three South Ward.
Marlene was diagnosed with ovarian cancer over two years ago. She was positive, courageous and brave regarding the journey she has been on. Marlene did her best in her challenge but is now in eternal peace. There can be no doubt our daring angel is now in haven with her loving parents.
The Baiza family would like to extend thanks to all of our friends and relatives who were always available to assist in anyway that they could. Thank you for all of your kind thoughts; prayers, cards; flowers; telephone calls; and offers of help. We will always remember your love and kindness.
Visitation will be 1-7 p.m. Thursday at Miller Memorial Chapel, 1120 W. Goshen Ave., Visalia. Services will be 8:30 a.m. Friday at the chapel.
