Florence "Peggy" O'Neil Moorehead Birlson, 89, of LaPorte, died at 9:42 a.m. Saturday, May 8, 2010, at LaPorte Hospital.
She was born in Newport, Arkansas, on July 1, 1920, the daughter of Henry and Lillie (Woodard) Moorehead.
Mrs. Birlson has been a resident of LaPorte since 1946. She had worked as a quality control inspector at Kingsbury Ordnance Plant and later as a supervisor at the Olin Company. She enjoyed traveling and visiting with family and friends, and was a fabulous cook.
On Feb. 3, 1944, in Walnut Ridge, Arkansas, she married Buster Birlson, who died April 17, 1975.
Also preceding her in death were her parents, three brothers and one sister.
Surviving are four children, Cordellia Diane (Michael) Borawski of Michigan City, IN, Sharon Kay (Cary) Kirkham of LaPorte, Carla Janis (Jim) Toole of Rockford, IL, and Roger Keith (Karen) Birlson of LaPorte; six grandchildren, Billy (Christie) Krachinski, Kevin (Barb) Toole, Sarah Toole, Emily (Greg) Barnes, Matthew Borawski, and Roger Birlson Jr.; and eight great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received at Cutler Funeral Home, LaPorte, on Wednesday, May 12, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with her nephew, Pastor Terry Watson, officiating. Interment will follow in Pine Lake Cemetery, LaPorte.
