John C. Moorehead
October 6, 1924 - November 8, 2007 John Campbell Moorehead, passed away Thursday, November 8, 2007 peacefully at his home. He was born October 6, 1924 in Belfast, Northern Ireland a son of John Campbell and Jean Coates Rae. On St. Patrick's Day 1946 he met his future wife on the Durban Castle as it sailed from Bombay, India to Southampton, England. They continued to court whenever he set anchor in Southampton or London and were engaged in 1947. On February 19, 1949 he was married to Lilian Eileen Hern in Romford, Essex, England at St. Andrew's Church of England moving to Plymouth from Burlington, Canada in 1966. Immigrating from Belfast originally. Mr. Moorehead proudly served the United Kingdom during World War II in the Merchant Marines. In his younger days he was an avid rugby player. As he aged his interest turned to golf. Being a true Irishman he enjoyed his drink. He had a wonderful sense of humor and a quick wit. He always enjoyed a good debate. Mr. Moorehead was a great storyteller and took delight in entertaining his family and friends with his jokes and stories. Once retired Mr. Moorehead found woodworking a wonderful pastime. Mr. Moorehead taught his children the importance of hard work. Most of all, he was dedicated to his life long partner and wife, his children and grandchildren. Prior to his retirement in 1985 he had been employed by Ford Motor Company as a Facilities Planning Engineer for 30 years. Mr. Moorehead is survived by his beloved wife for nearly 59 years, Lilian E. Moorehead of Plymouth. Dear father of Catherine ( Greg ) Henry of Mt. Pleasant, SC, Jean ( James ) Libs of Ann Arbor, Stephen ( Rita ) Moorehead of Chandler, AZ and Gillian ( Anthony, M.D. ) Asher, D.D.S. of Charlotte, NC. Fond grandfather of 8 grandsons, John Henry, Sam Henry, Andrew Libs, William Libs, Justin Johnson, Jacob Moorehead, Tony Asher and Kyle Asher and one granddaughter, Dayna Asher. Dear sister-in-law Ellen Broome and delightful nephew Christopher Broome. Also remembered are their lifelong friends and neighbors for over 40 years, Frank and Arlene Pasley. Preceded in death by his sister, Jean "Babs" Moorehead. Visitation will be held on Sunday, November 11, 2007 from 1 – 6 P.M. and funeral services will be held on Monday, November 12, 2007 at 11:00 A.M. at the Vermeulen Funeral Home, 46401 West Ann Arbor Road, (between Sheldon and Beck) Plymouth (734-459-2250 ). Cremation will follow. The family has suggested memorial contributions to The Manor, 115 East Street, Jonesville MI 49250 in lieu of flowers (a treatment and educational facility for special needs children).
