Patricia Lee Kortum passed away July 18, 2016 at the age of 71 at her home in Salmon. She was laid to rest on July 23, 2016 in the Salmon Cemetery.

Pat was born October 29, 1944 in St. Cloud, Minnesota, to Walter Leo and Helen Elizabeth (Taggert) Morrison. She married Jim Kortum in 1963. Jim served honorably for more than 20 years in the U.S. Navy. The family moved many times, finally settling in Salmon, Idaho in 1979 when Jim retired from military service. Pat worked various jobs. She was a cook at the Smoke House, an EMT and she cooked for many years at fire camps. She was an advocate for animals, rescuing many throughout the years.

Pat was infinitely patient and very loving to those who were closest to her. She taught nieces to crochet and the art of cooking. She was a second mom to those who needed the extra love and support. She suffered more loss in her lifetime than seems fair, but she remained strong throughout. Those who were closest to her appreciate that she loved deeply, and true friendships were forged for life.

She was an intensely private person, not known to many, but loved well by those who knew her best. She dreamed of becoming a veterinarian, and though life led her in another direction, she was able to be the positive in the lives of the many animals she rescued during her lifetime.

Her frank advice and amazing wit will be missed every moment of every day. She is at peace now, joyous in Heaven with those she loved who went before. We will miss our mom, our sister, our friend.

She is survived by her son, Mike (Julie Hagen) Kortum of Dumont, Colorado; her daughter, Kathleen Kortum (Herb Rowell) of Floresville, Texas; granddaughter, Jaime Leigh Kortum of Floresville, Texas; as well as her children in spirit, Rick and Theresa Miller of Salmon.

She was preceded in death by her son, Kerry Lamar Kortum; her daughter, Cynthia Lee Ackerman; and her husband of 45 years, James Lee Kortum.

Memorials are suggested to the Lemhi County Animal Shelter, P.O. Box 1918, Salmon, ID 83467.

Arrangements under the direction of Jones & Casey Funeral Home.
