Phoebe Jane Black, 74, of Torrington died Jan. 21 at Applewood Living Center in Longmont, Colo., after an extended illness.
Jane was born Feb. 1, 1932, at home in Hyde, Colo., to Wray and Dora (Andersen) Mountain.
She graduated from Akron High School and as a registered nurse from St. Joseph Hospital School of Nursing.
Jane married John W. Black on Dec. 28, 1953, and has lived in Longmont, Cheyenne, Sheridan and Torrington with her family.
She worked in the family real- estate business in Longmont and Sheridan for several years, and also did hospice work there. She was very active for many years in the Cursillo Movement within the Catholic Church. She and her family have been active members of all their parishes in Sheridan, Longmont, Cheyenne and, most recently, at St. Rose in Torrington. Jane worked part-time as a school nurse there and was president of the Council of Catholic Women. She coordinated Eucharistic Adoration in both Sheridan and Torrington and worked tirelessly all her adult life in the pro-life movement.
Phoebe Jane was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Bert and Walter Mountain; her sisters, Waunita Brown, Dorothy Gisi and Margie Shannon; and her grandchildren, Joseph and Mary Krische.
