At the Charlotte County Hospital in St. Stephen NB on Saturday, March 21, 2009, Mrs. Ruth (Murphy) Dorey, wife of the late Thomas Norman Dorey of Blacks Harbour NB. Born on March 5, 1916 she was a daughter of the late Alfred and Mary Ellen (Acker) Murphy. A loving mother, grandmother, sister and good friend, she is survived by two daughters; Evelyn (Ted) Hatt of St. Andrews NB and Deanna Morrell of Quispamsis NB, one son, George (Barbara) Dorey of Eureka California, five grandchildren; Angela Hatt of Edmonton AB, Thomas (Heather) Dorey, Selina (Chris) Athurst, and Michelle McCullough all of Saint John NB and Ricky Dorey of Eureka California, nine great-grandchildren and one great great grandchild, two sisters; Helen (Percy) Foster and Peggy (Fred) Weirhers of Aylsford NS, her homemakers; Anna (Clyde) Thorne of Canal NB, Betty Ann Doiron of Blacks Harbour, Beth McLaughlin (John Stevens) of Pennfield, special friends; Mayor John Craig of St. Andrews and Howard Justason of Saint John and several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her husband Tom, Ruth was predeceased by grandsons; Roger Dorey, Gordon Hatt and Jaylin Fletcher, sisters; Thelma Veinott and Joyce Taylor, brothers; Stedman McKay, William, Cecil, George and infant brother John Murphy Jr.
Ruth loved cooking and giving gifts to everyone. She loved getting out and around when she was able to and conversing with her many friends. She was a member of Calvary Atlantic Baptist Church in Blacks Harbour and a former Sunday school teacher.
There will be no visiting at the funeral home, the service will be held from the Gary E. Waycott Memorial Chapel at the funeral home on Wednesday at 2pm with Rev. Bruce Alcorn officiating. Interment at the Pennfield Rural Cemetery in the spring. In Ruth’s memory, donations in lieu of flowers to the Charlotte County Cancer Society or a charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family.
