"Lou was born in Toronto, South Dakota where she attended school and graduated the valedictorian of her class. Soon after graduation she left to pursue her dream of becoming a world traveler and got her first job with Northwest Airlines. She moved on to Lufthansa Airlines which gave her the opportunity to fulfill her dream of traveling the world. One of her favorite vacation spots was Acapulco, Mexico. This was also the favorite destination of her future husband, Bob Bloedow. They were introduced to each other based their mutual love of Acapulco. She eventually took a break from the workforce to raise her two children, Heidi and Scott.
Even though she didn't have her own job while she was raising her children, Bob worked for the sheriff's department at a time when there were no female deputies. She would play the female role in under-cover stings and assisted him in extraditing female prisoners from all over the United States. Their most memorable trip was to Las Vegas to pick-up a prisoner. After flying into Las Vegas, they checked in at the hotel and not only saw Elvis perform live and but also gambled the whole night. Not missing a beat, they went right from the casino to the jail to pick up the prisoner.
Once her children were in school, Lou returned to the travel industry at Travelways, where she ultimately became the general manager and vice president of the company enjoying many years of work there. In retirement, she continued her travels and began spending time with her grandchildren. While they were only 25 minutes away from their grandchildren, Bob and Lou eventually moved closer to them and saw them almost every single day. Lou talked to Heidi every night at 8 pm. Heidi also has the travel bug, and called her without fail, no matter where she was in the world.
With the exception of Antarctica, Bob and Lou have visited every continent and have witnessed world events from the fall of the Berlin wall during the reunification of Germany - to being on the last Northwest flight out of South Africa before the US boycott due to apartheid. Even with all of her world travels, Acapulco remained Lou's favorite destination visiting there over 50 times. Their trips included bringing their children, grandchildren and other family members.
As a woman who lived her life with great passion, on her own terms… and with no regrets, Lou was a tremendous grandmother, mom, sister and friend. She brought a huge amount of kindness, humor and energy to everyone who knew her and to everything she did. As she travels to her next heavenly destination, though we will miss Lou terribly, we know her journey will be filled with joy and endless wonder."
