She was the wife of the late Ronald Alwood who died on May 15, 2004.
The couple had been married for 49 years.
A celebration of life tribute service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, June 9, 2017, at Life Tributes by Olewiler & Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 35 Gotham Pl., Red Lion.
A viewing will be from 10 to 11 a.m. prior to the service.
The burial will be in Red Lion Cemetery.
Born on October 11, 1927, in Dallastown, she was the daughter of the late Charles H. and Nettie E. (Peters) Ness.
Helen was a seamstress for JLM Sportswear, Inc. and also worked at Dentsply International, Inc.
Mrs. Alwood was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Red Lion.
She was also a member of Red Lion Elks Lodge Ladies Auxiliary, Dallastown American Legion Post #605 Ladies Auxiliary and the Golden Ages.
Helen loved socializing and most importantly loved spending time with her friends and family.
Mrs. Alwood is survived by one son, Lee Alwood, and wife, Jody of Key West, FL; two granddaughters, Nicole Biser and husband, Aaron of Houston, TX and Courtney Howell and husband, Mitch of York; and one great-grandson, Logan Howell.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Virginia Walters; one brother, Rodger Ness; and one-half brother, Cletus Ness.
