LITCHFIELD — Bernice Florence Alfson, 85, of Litchfield died Sunday at her home.

The service will be at 3:30 p.m. Thursday at Litchfield United Methodist Church. Burial will be in the Cyrus South Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Johnson-Hagglund Funeral Home in Litchfield and for one hour prior to the service at the church.

She was born May 6, 1923, in Cyrus to Anton and Mable (Johnson) Ness. She graduated from Cyrus High School in 1941.

She married Lawrence Alfson on July 26, 1941, in Cyrus. They lived in Minneapolis for a short time and the she returned to Cyrus while Lawrence served in the U.S. Navy. After the war, the couple returned to Minneapolis for about four years and then built a house in Roseville. In 1955, the family built a house in Lauderdale where the family resided for 40 years. They then moved to Glenwood and lived there for two years. In 2000, they built a home on Lake Ripley where they spent nine years.

Bernice held various jobs over the years including representing World Book Encyclopedias.

She was a member of Salem Evangelical Free Church in Minneapolis and the Litchfield United Methodist Church.

She is survived by her husband; children: Ron (and Paula) Alfson of Tulsa, Okla., Janice (and Dan) Dixon of Litchfield, Arlen Alfson of South Pasadena, Calif., and Sheryle (and Dean) Hazard of Stillwater; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and a sister: Phyllis Helgerson of Cyrus.

She was preceded in death by a brother and a sister.
