Eleanore Margaret Arens, age 90, of Kellogg, died Friday, January 31, 2014 at St. Elizabeth's Nursing Home in Wabasha. She was born August 25, 1923 in rural Mondovi, Buffalo County, WI, the daughter of William and Ovedia (Johnson) Ness. The family moved to Kellogg when she was young. Ellie graduated from Kellogg High School.

Ellie married Odell "Buzz" Arens June 16, 1942 at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Kellogg. After their marriage, she lived with her parents and their young daughter while Buzz spent three years in active duty in the Philippines and New Guinea during World War II.

Upon Buzz's return from the war, the couple founded the Arens Motor and Implement Company in Kellogg. Buzz ran the successful business selling cars and farm machinery until 1982 when he retired. He then worked for his son, Jerry Arens, at State Farm Insurance in Wabasha for two years. Buzz and Ellie had a wonderful marriage until his death December 12, 1986.

Ellie worked tirelessly in her home taking loving care of her nine children and her large extended family her entire life. She was a talented cook and baker and her family could be found around her table for most every meal. Ellie was both a caring mother and a gracious host. She knew and enjoyed visiting with everyone she encountered and her kind and gentle nature charmed all. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren brought her special joy whether they were playing a piano piece, playing in a sporting event, or playing at home. She knew all their birthdays-all 75 of them-and they each held a special place in her heart. Ellie was the heart of her family, and her devotion and love to them will never be forgotten.

Ellie was a faithful member of St. Agnes Catholic Church in Kellogg and a member of its Council of Catholic Women. She was also a 65 year charter member of the Kellogg American Legion Post #546 Auxiliary.

She is survived by children and spouses, Marge and Ken Meyer, Des Moines, IA, Jerry and Mary Arens, Wabasha, MN, Jim and Arian Arens, LaCrosse, WI, John and Rita Arens, Kellogg, MN, Darlene and Steve Leqve, Rochester, MN, Marlene and Rich Strong, Edina, MN, Terry and Kathy Arens, Wabasha, MN, Jean and John Glomski, Lake City, MN, Ed Arens, Kellogg, MN; 26 grandchildren; 49 great-grandchildren; sister and brothers-in-law, Charlotte and Bob Arens, Kellogg, MN, Dan (Mary) Dinneen, Mandan, ND, Dick Arens, Lonsdale, MN; sisters-in-law, Janice Arens and Elinor Graner, both of Kellogg, MN; nieces and nephews; great-nieces and great-nephews and cousins.
