Newhouse, Dennis Howard Ypsilanti, MI
Age 64, passed away on March 28, 2010 at Arbor Hospice surrounded by his family. He was born the son of William "Bill" and Lucille (Roberts) Newhouse on May 31, 1945 in Arkansas. On June 13, 1971, he married Elizabeth Ann "Betty" Newhouse, who passed on March 30, 2009, and is now with the Lord in heaven. He was a loving son, husband, father, brother, uncle, friend and Paw Paw. He is survived by his son, Dennis J. Newhouse, 34, and wife Amanda (Black) Newhouse, 24; two grandchildren, Alexis Elizabeth Newhouse, 8, and Jackson James Newhouse, 14 months of Ypsilanti; (son) Bill Newhouse and wife Tracy Newhouse of Canton; and (brother) Larry Newhouse and wife Pamela Newhouse of Madison, IN; along with many nieces and nephews. Many will remember Dennis by his strong ties to the city of Ypsilanti and businesses that dealt with automobiles. As a child, his father owned Bill & Jim's Service Station on Michigan Avenue and North Park in Ypsilanti, where he spent his early years helping and working. The family started Newhouse Automotive on North Park Street in Ypsilanti, and then the family opened Newhouse Salvage Yard on West Michigan Avenue. Dennis operated the salvage yard from 1978 until 1994. Dennis then opened and operated Automax Sales and Service from 1995 until 2000. Dennis and his family then opened Mantis Garden Supply of Ypsilanti in 2001. Dennis' son, Dennis and his wife Amanda, own and operate Mantis Pet Supply and Mantis Pet Clinics, along with his niece, Kendra Spears. Dennis loved Ypsilanti. He served the community through his and his family's businesses. He will be remembered for the great love he had for his family. He was a mentor and teacher to many and to many more a good friend. He will truly be missed. Join us for a celebration of Dennis' life on Wednesday, April 14, 2010, at 1 p.m. At Graceway Baptist Church with Pastor Keith Worrell officiating.
