Vernetta Cecilia Ackerman, 85 of Frederick, died Tuesday, March 27, 2012 at FrederickMemorial Hospital due to complications following a fall. Born June 21, 1926 in Geistown, PA, she was the daughter of the late Raymond and Helen McGough Newhouse. She was the wife of Richard H. Ackerman who died in 1999.
Mrs. Ackerman was a member of St. Timothy Roman Catholic Church, Walkersville. She taught religious education for elementary students for a number of years while residing in Florida and also led a Bible study group. She was an avid reader, enjoyed playing the piano and singing, loved the church, its history and enjoyed sharing this, as well as her faith, with others.
Surviving are 4 daughters, Judy Smarsh and husband Ed and Linda Lebo and husband Craig, all of Walkersville; Becky Levine of Kennesaw, GA and Mary Jo Haddad and husband Fred of Winter Park, FL; a son, Richard H. Ackerman and wife Vickie of Bellefonte, PA; 19 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren; 4 sisters, Rita Tourney and husband Charles of Johnstown, PA; Janet Brode and husband Chuck of Ravenna, OH; Joan Keating- Sikon and husband Chester of Phoenix, AZ; Barbara Knieriemand husband Don of Prescott, AZ; a brother, Tom Newhouse and wife Irene of Johnstown; and numerous nieces and nephews.
