FLORENCE - A memorial service will be held March 16 for Euphemia "Effie" Dunning of Florence, who died March 10 of age-related causes. She was 79.

Dunning was born Aug. 13, 1926, in Edinburgh, Scotland, to Gilbert and Roberta Nicolson. She married Raymond Dunning on July 18, 1954, in Reno, Nev.

She previously lived in Roseburg, Cottage Grove, Medford and Sutherlin. A homemaker, she enjoyed quilting and loved making quilts for her family. She belonged to Florence Church of the Nazarene, the Rhododendron Quilt Guild and the Mobile Missionary Assistance Program. She was a past noble grand in the Rebekah Lodge in Sutherlin.

Survivors include her husband; two sons, Douglas Dickens of Durban, South Africa, and Gilbert Dunning of Radcliff, Ky.; two daughters, Alice LeDee of Dunedin, Fla., and Claudia Mattingly of Bonney Lake, Wash.; a sister, Marion Rogers of Inverurie, Scotland; 10 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. One great-grandchild died previously.

Thursday's service will be held at 11 a.m. at the Florence Church of the Nazarene. Lane Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home in Eugene is in charge of arrangements.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Friends of Florence van fund.
