Mary Margaret “Sis” Baxter, 92, died Friday, August 20, 2004 at Augusta Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Fisherville, VA.

She was born August 1, 1912 in Bethesda, MD, a daughter of the later William and Elsie Marie (Walters) Niemeyer.

The oldest of eight children, she was born at home premature, weighing only 2 pounds, the only twin to survive. She was in the first graduation class of Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School. She essentially raised her younger brothers and sisters.

She moved to the area three years ago to be near her grand-daughter Margaret. Her life was devoted to her family, and she took care of her daughter “Mickie” who died of cancer in 1980, helping to raise granddaughters Mary Kay and Margaret afterwards.

She was a member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Kensington, MD.

She was a past worth matron of the Eastern Star in Bethesda, MD, and was a Campfire Girl troop leader.

Surviving are her daughter, Nancy Jean Mikolaczjk and her husband Ronald of Hawi, Hawaii; son-in-law, A. Chester Flather, Jr. of Ellicott City, MD; grand-daughters; Dr. Margaret D. Flather of Afton, Mary Katherine Flather Peters of Dayton, MD, Christine Mikolaczjyk, Cindy Paresa and Cheryl Sanico, all of Hawaii; grandson Billy Mikolaczjyk, also of Hawaii; 6 great-grand-children; a step-daughter, Laura Spillane of Rockville, MD; a step-grandson Keith Spillane of Ellicott City, MD; and a younger brother and sister, Bobby Neimeyer and Joan Fordham.

A Service will be conducted at 9:00 A.M. Thursday at the Rockfish Presbyterian Church, in Nelson County, VA, by David and Kathryn Cameron. Interment will follow in Rockville Cemetery, Rockville, MD.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Augusta Nursing and Rehabilitation Resident Aid Fund, 83 Crossroads Lane, Fisherville, VA 22939.

McDow Funeral Home in Waynesboro, VA is handling arrangements.
