Daughter of Dr. James Nisbet and Penelope Cooper. After the death of their parents, Mary, sister Ophelia and 3 youngest brothers were taken in by their elder brother, Eugenius A. Nisbet. The boys stayed until their college days. However, neither Mary nor Ophelia ever left their brother's home. Ophelia died of bilious fever in 1835. Mary outlived her brother Eugenius and remained in his household for over 40 years. She would eventually be found living with her sister, Sarah Angelina Nisbet Leconte Weems, in the household of her niece, Anne Leconte Anderson in Macon.
