Longtime Chester resident Helen Louise Abney passed from this life peacefully whith her son and husband at her side early Friday morning, March 1st, 2013 at Country Villa Riverview located in Susanville, CA.
Born November 8, 1931 in Bonhom, Texas to the late Oswood and Nettie (Wood) Nowell she and her family relocated to Hugo, Oklahoma when she was a young child where she was raised and educated.
On July 2, 1952 in DeQuinn, Arkansas she married the love of her life a handsome J.D. Abney and to his union two sons were born. They returned to Hugo following their marriage and it is here Helen worked for the Wells-Lamont glove factory.
In July of 1957 the family moved to Chester, CA where Helen took employment as a cook at the former A&W Drive Inn, later as a Park Ranger for the U.S. Forest Service and prior to retirement cooked at the Chester Senior Nutrition site. First and foremost though Helen was a loving and caring wife, mother and grandparent who enjoyed camping with her family as well as being an avid fisherman. Helen had attended the Chester Assembly of God Church for many years.
In passing Helen leaves her loving husband of 61 years and dedicated caregiver for the past 15 years; J.D. Abney of Chester, CA, sons; Billy J.D. Abney of Redding, CA and Michael K. Abney of Susanville, CA, brother; Ronnie Nowell of Oroville, CA, sister; Delia "Dee Dee" Bell of Hugo, Oklahoma; the pride of her later life her grand children; Randy, Mindy, Andrea, Christopher and Andrew along with numerous great grandchildren.
Along with her parents she joins her three sisters in their eternal home
