LAMAR COUNTY ECHO Thu., Apr. 11, 1985. 'Mrs. Lillie Abney, wife of the late Ed Abney, of Grand Saline died at McCuistion Medical Center at 2:55 p.m. Thursday, April 4. Services were held Sunday, April 7, at Fry and Gibbs Funeral Home Chapel with Haskell England minister of the West Paris Church of Christ officiating. Burial was in the Detroit Cemetery. Mrs. Abney was born Jan. 1, 1908, in Paris, a daughter of Bailey Lee Nowell and Mary Gertrude Varner Nowell. She attended Paris schools and married Robert Smith in 1928. He died July 1, 1939. She married Mr. Abney on July 4, 1942. He died August 6, 1968. She lived most of her married life in Detroit and moved to Grand Saline after her husband's death. Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Wanda Parker of Grand Saline, Mrs. Sarah Cross of Texarkana and Mrs. Kit Short of Hurst; two sons, Robert Smith of Arlington and Osco Abney of Lubbock; 16 grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Mildred Mims of Paramount, Calif., and Mrs. Vera McKaskle of Paris. She was preceded in death by three sons, Albert W. Smith on July 27, 1939, Kenneth L. Smith on May 14, 1966 and Orville Abney on dec. 20, 1980'.
