She was born in Fort Wayne, the daughter of Mack V. Nunamaker and Sarah E. (Wagner) Shoemaker.
She was married to Clyde R. Edwards on August 4, 1950. After 50 wonderful years of marriage, Clyde passed away in November, 2000. Joan and Clyde were residents of Grant Co. Indiana until their retirement to Sebring, Florida in 1988. She retired from Marion Community Schools; and earlier in life, was a long-time employee of Marion National Bank. She was a member of the American Business Women's Assoc; American Legion Post #368; The Red Hat Society; The RCA Sympathy Club; Order of the Eastern Star; St. John United Methodist Church, Sebring, Florida and several social groups in Sebring.
She was preceded in death by her grandson, Michael V. Elliott of Anderson in March, 2006.
She is survived by her daughters, Maribeth (Alvin) Pittman, Anderson, and Patricia J. Edwards (Henry Olynger), Gas City; grandsons, Robert E. Elliott, Indianapolis, Andrew W. Elliott, Boston, MA., and Jeffrey R. Elliott, San Diego, Calif.; great-grandson, Harper V. Morrison, Anderson; step-sister, Suzy (John) Gingerich, Kokomo; step-brothers, David Shoemaker, Fla., and Roger Shoemaker, Ga.; three nieces; one nephew; several cousins and countless friends.
A Memorial Service will be at 5:00 p.m. Wednesday in Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, Storey Chapel, 400 E. Main St., Gas City .
Visitation is from 2 to 5 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home. Officiating will be the Rev. Tom Mansbarger.
