Mrs. Opha O'Leary, Mother Of Musical Family Is Dead

Funeral services were held at 9:30 a.m. yesterday for Mrs. Opha Gill O'Leary, 10127 Oakley ave., mother of the "O'Leary Musical Family," in St. Bernard's church. Mrs. O'Leary, who was 57 years old, died Saturday in Englewood hospital after an illness of six weeks. Burial was in Mount Olivet cemetery.

Mrs. O'Leary, her husband, Michael F. O'Leary, and their five childien were a well-known musical troupe during the 1920's. They broadcast the opening program on the former Southtown Economist radio station WBCN and they continued as entertainers at that station until it was closed. Mrs. O'Leary played the guitar. Her husband accompanied her on the mouth organ.

Born March 30, 1886, in Shobonier, Ill., Mrs. O'Leary later came to Chicago where she was married on June 27, 1906, in St. Bernard's church. The O'Learys lived at 7253 May st. for 17 years before they moved to the Oakley ave. address.

Her husband, a resident of Southtown for 51 years, is a plumbing inspector for the city and is a Democratic precinct captain in the 19th ward. He is a former member of the Englewood Kiwanis club and of the Englewood Business Men's association.

Besides her husband, Mrs. O'Leary is survived by her three daughters and two sons, former member of the musical troupe, and five grandchildren. Her daughters are Mrs. Mary Zylstra, 36 years old, 7824 Winchester ave.; Mrs. Verna Mulrenin, 34 years old, 3310 W. 107th st., and Betty O'Leary, 19 yean; old, and her sons are Pvt. John T O'Leary, 30 years old, stationed at the Reno

Private O'Leary arrived home before his mother died and, although even then gravely ill, she recognized him. Robert O'Leary was notified of his mother's death through the Red Cross.
