King of the Hellenes from 1922 to 1924, from 1935 to 1941 and from 1946 to 1947. When King Constantine I abdicated he had been succeeded by his eldest son, Crown Prince George. When King George II's reign began, he was 33 years old. The stress of the World war II had weakened King George II's health. Soon after taking the salute at the annual Independence Day Parade on 25 March, he became exhausted and died suddenly of a heart attack. Having no children, he was succeeded by his younger brother, who became King Paul I.
