Myron J. Ondricek, age 70, of 438 Wyoming Ave. SW, Huron, died early Sunday morning, March 7, 2004, at the Huron Nursing Home. His funeral service will be 1:00 PM Wednesday, March 10, at the Bethesda Church of Huron with Rev. Randy Crook officiating. Burial will be at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery with Military Rites by the Bensley-Rounds American Legion Post #280 of Iroquois. Friends may call this Tuesday afternoon and evening and Wednesday morning at the Welter Funeral Home or prior to the service at the church Wednesday afternoon. The family will be present from 7-8 PM this Tuesday evening at the funeral home.
Myron Joseph Ondricek was born on June 5, 1933, to Joseph and Verna (Kopecky) Ondricek at Highmore, SD. He grew up on the family farm near Highmore until 1946, when he moved with his family to Huron, where he attended and graduated from Huron High School in 1951.
On June 24, 1951, Myron married Nila Peskey at Pipestone, MN. The couple lived in Huron and Myron worked for a Mitchell company installing sewer lines until 1953. In October of 1953, Myron entered the U.S. Army and served in Germany. He was honorably discharged in September of 1955. He returned to Huron and worked for Armour and Company and in construction. In 1959, the family moved to Colby, KS, where he worked as a mechanic/salesman for the J.I. Case Tractor Company. They returned to Huron in 1968, and Myron worked as a mechanic for Kaspersons until ill health forced his retirement in 1985. He worked periodically in auctioneering, and he and Nila owned and operated the New To You Store in Iroquois where they sold antiques and collectables.
He was a member of the Bethesda Church of Huron, and the Bensley-Rounds American Legion Post #280 of Iroquois. His many interests included fishing, crossword puzzles, antiques, and attending auction sales and flea markets.
He is survived by his wife, Nila of Huron; 1 son, Randy (Arlette) Ondricek of Huron; 4 grandchildren, Carol (Paul) Whatley, Lee Ondricek, Jena Ondricek, and Matthew Ondricek; his mother, Verna Ondricek of Huron; 2 brothers, Bert (Betty) Ondricek of Somerset, CA, and Joe (Linda) Ondricek of Hollister, CA; 1 daughter-in-law, Jane Ondricek of Huron; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph Ondricek on August 15, 1966; and a son, Ricky Ondricek on July 18, 2000.
