Elsie M. Ondricek, age 86, passed away Tuesday, July 19, 2011 at Golden Living Center in Watertown, South Dakota. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 23, 2011 at Mt. Olive Lutheran Church in Watertown with Pastor Iver Possehl officiating.
Interment will be at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Watertown.
Visitation will be Friday from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Wight, Comes & Sogn Funeral Chapel in Watertown.
Pallbearers will be Nathan Ondricek, Ashley Ondricek, Courtney Livingston, Don Schneider, Steve Anderson and Ernie Vavruska.
Elsie May Ondricek was born May 19, 1925 in Pembrooke, South Dakota, the youngest child of John and Ellen (Newman) Anderson. She attended school there through the eighth grade. Elsie lived on the family farm until she married Dennis Ondricek. Her family included five brothers and one sister.
Elsie was known for her accordion playing, singing and her love of dancing in her younger years.
Elsie married Dennis Ondricek on May 29, 1945. They farmed near Lebanon, South Dakota and later lived in Pierre, Doland, and South Shore where Dennis worked in grain elevators. They moved to Watertown where Elsie worked at St. Ann's Hospital and then at the Elco Motel until she retired.
Elsie was a member of Mount Olive Lutheran Church. She enjoyed working with the ladies group and with The AAL(Thrivent) chapter. She was well known for her craft work. Many visitors received a gift of her labor. Birthdays, anniversarys and weddings were remembered by her families by the craft items received from Mom. The telephone was her life line and she enjoyed talking to family and friends. One of her Greatest joys was talking about her great-grandchildren Sawyer and Graham.
Elsie died July 19, 2011 at the Golden Living Center in Watertown. She was proceeded in death by her husband Dennis, her parents and her five brothers Bill, Melvin, Jay, Maurice and Marvin.
Elsie is survived by her daughter Shirley (Gary) Springer Carpio, ND, a son Quentin (Kathy) Ondricek Fort Wayne IN; four grandsons Daniel Springer of Minot, ND, Joshua Springer of Mandan, ND, Nathan (Shawn)Ondricek of Lakeville, MN and Ashley Ondricek of Savage, MN; two great-grandsons Sawyer and Graham Ondricek of Lakeville, MN; sister Arlean Garrison of Murrieta CA: sisters-in-law Mildred Anderson of Gettysburg, SD, Antonette Edinger of Missoula, MT and Julia Boyd of Edmunds, WA ,Verna Ondricek of Huron, SD, Glennie Ondricek of Pierre, SD, Dorothy Ondricek of Highmore, SD. Maxine Ondricek of CA and many nieces and nephews.
