It is with heavy hearts and profound sorrow we announce the passing of our Mother, Beatrice O. Apodaca. "Mamo" as she was lovingly called, was 94 years old, and is now enjoying eternal life. Bea was born in Van Horn, Texas to Bruno Ontiveros and Leandra Getta Ontiveros. She met and married the love of her life, Luis V. Apodaca in Las Cruces, NM.

In spite of not having the opportunity of a formal education, she was one of the smartest women we knew. She stressed the importance of education to her children and grandchildren. Bea was very supportive and proud of her children and grandchildren. She instilled a strong work ethic in all of them and believed any job worth doing should be done right or not at all. Bea worked all her life creating a loving environment, not only for her children and husband but for many nieces and nephews. She was a generous person with a huge heart who believed in helping anyone in need. It was not uncommon for Bea to be charitable to the neighborhood children walking to and from school and to any family member or neighbor in need.

Bea was a lifetime member of the Sacred Heart League and devoted many hours to sewing and embroidering church vestments, singing in the church choir and playing the cello. She also enjoyed volunteering at the neighborhood public school.
Another of Bea's pastimes was designing and sewing many wedding and bridesmaid dresses for family, friends and neighbors. Bea touched many people in her life and has left us with many happy memories. She also loved to bake her famous Viscochos (wedding cookies) for family and friends.

She was preceded in death by husband; parents; and her sister, Margaret Cordero and leaves to cherish her memory: sister, Antonia Lujan; daughters, Sylvia J. Taylor and husband Daniel, Lorrainne Vasquez and husband David; sons, Luis Apodaca Jr. and wife Martha, Lawrence Apodaca; grandchildren: Noel L. Taylor; Beatrice Melissa Gonzalez and husband Fernando, Ericka Apodaca, Sandra Tamayo and husband Julian, Amanda Apodaca, Brandi Vasquez Alvarez and husband Joaquin, Amber Vasquez Jordan and husband Jesse, Sgt. David Aaron Vasquez and wife Maria, and Bruno Vasquez and significant other Jourdan Palacios; great-grandchildren: Jeremiah, Micaela and Naima Gonzalez, Diamante Boona and husband Atiwat, Ever Centeno, Julian Luis, Jalees, and Aiden Tamayo, Lucy Garcia, Yasmine and Yelene Alvarez, Adrien and Milleena Vasquez, Phoenix and Anaiah Jordan, Myrah Hernandez-Mace, and Sarai Vasquez; her great-great- grandson, Elijah Boona; and many nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Rosary will be recited at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, March 14, 2017 followed by a Memorial Mass at St. Genevieve's Catholic Church. Inurnment will follow at San José Cemetery. Please visit www.crawfordbowersfuneralhome.com for online tributes.
