It is with deep sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our dear beloved faithful, wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, Minnie Ontiveros Lujan, age 79, lifelong resident of Las Cruces on Sunday, October 1, 2017 at La Posada-Mesilla Valley Hospice surrounded by her loving family. She was born December 14, 1937 to Jose M. and Josefa Hidalgo Ontiveros. Minnie was a loving homemaker and a member of the Roman Catholic Church.
Those left to mourn her passing include her loving husband of fifty-nine years, Albert H. Lujan of the family home; a son, James Lujan (Valerie); four daughters, Evelyn Marquez (Ernesto) and Barbara Lujan all of Las Cruces, Alice Ortega (Robert) of Rio Rancho, and Yolanda Groenewold (Keven) of Santa Fe; three brothers, Frank Ontiveros, Rudy Ontiveros (Isabel) all of Las Cruces, and Albert Ontiveros (Angie) of Ruidoso; two sisters, Isabel Benavidez and Rosie Barela both also of Las Cruces. Other survivors include eleven grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Minnie was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Lalo Ontiveros.
Recitation of the Holy Rosary will begin at 7 PM Thursday, October 5, 2017 at Baca's Funeral Chapels, 300 E. Boutz Road. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 AM Friday, October 6, 2017 at Holy Cross Catholic Church, 1327 N. Miranda Street. The Rite of Committal and Interment will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Gardens Cemetery, 5140 W. Picacho Avenue where she will be laid to rest in the family plot.
Serving as casket bearers will be Ignacio, Isaac and Steven Marquez, Jeffrey Groenewold, Jacob Gomez and Anthony Montoya. Honorary bearers will be his seven granddaughters, Marie, Michelle, DeAnne, Amanda, Christina, Alexandria and Lexi.
