THEODOSIA (PARK) BREED, of 1510 W. Demeter Drive, widow of Donald L. Breed, former publisher of the Freeport Journal Standard, died this morning at Freeport Memorial Hospital.
A graduate of Willard School, at Wollaston, Massachusetts, Theodosia Park then studied art. She was educated at the Museum School in Boston and was a graduate of the Art Institute of Chicago. She also studied with the Art Students League in New York City and in Prague, Czechoslovakia. Following her marriage, she accompanied her husband to Europe where he accepted employment as U. S. Commercial Attaché in Prague.
When her husband's father died, the couple came to Freeport where Donald Breed became editor of the Freeport Journal-Standard. On October 1, 1976 the Breed family sold the paper to Howard Publications. Mrs. Breed was well known for her portrait paintings, many of which hang in Freeport homes. In 1942, a reception was held at the YWCA for the preview of her pairing of "Twin Caves," one of the outstanding scenic spots of Krape Park. On May 13, 1949, pictures appeared in the Chicago Daily Tribune titled "Three Generations In Family Exhibit Their Paintings," showing Mrs. Breed, her daughter Sylvia, and her mother, Clara (Cahill) Park, displaying their paintings in the Cordon Club's galleries in Chicago. Mrs. Breed was a world traveler and member of the Freeport Shakespeare Society, the Winneshiek Players, and charter member of the Freeport Country Club.
Born in Detroit, Michigan on May 1, 1896, she was the daughter of Robert Ezra and Clara (Cahill) Park. She married Donald L. Breed on September 6, 1920 in Woolaston, Massachusetts.
Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Sylvia (Heinz) Vaterlaus of Boston, Massachusetts, a former publisher of the Journal-Standard;
