Gladys Parker Allison
(May 22, 1929 - January 19, 2010)

Gladys Allison, 80, of Winona, went to be with the Lord on January 19, 2010.

Gladys Eudene (Parker) Allison, daughter of Allie (Blaylock) and Tillman Parker, was born May 22, 1929, in Eskridge, MS. Gladys was a beloved daughter, sister, mother, grandmother and friend. She had a deep faith in God. Her only son, Galon, was her pride and joy. She encouraged and helped her grandchildren further their education. She was proud of her grandchildren graduating from college: Paul, Doctorate in Mechanical Engineering from MSU; Georgina, Master's from Portland State, undergraduate Michigan Tech; Gretchen, undergraduate from SDSU.

Gladys loved to watch sporting events especially football games. Her son took her to several MN Gopher games while she lived in MN from 1981-1983. Her grandchildren recall her excitement in collecting Elvis Presley memorabilia. She was happiest in Winona, sitting on her porch swing. With lots of persuasion she would occasionally leave for a day trip to check out a Family Dollar store nearby, tour Graceland, or stroll around New Orleans. This past May she celebrated her 80th birthday with her grandchildren and sister Helen in Greenwood.

Gladys was self-sufficient, generous and willing to help others. During her career she worked in women's fashions at TWL, K-Mart and later managed Family Dollar.

She is survived by her son, Ralph Galon Allison, Jr. (Rose) MN; grandchildren, Dr. Paul Allison, MS; Georgina Harell (Dustin) OR; Gretchen Kirchmann (Scott) MT; great-grandchildren, Paul and Allison Grace; sister, Helen Daves, sister-in-law, Eleanor Parker; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, the late Mr. & Mrs. Tillman and Allie (Blaylock) Parker; and siblings, Estelle Blackwelder, Leon Parker, Lela Mae "Pete" Austin and Denmond Parker.

A visitation will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 30, 2010, at Oliver Funeral Home in Winona, followed by a graveside service at 11:00 a.m. at New
Hope Methodist Church Cemetery in Winona. Rev. T.R. Darsey of the First Baptist Church in Winona will officiate.

Pallbearers are Paul Allison, Dustin Harell, Mike Parker, and John Wayne Van Horn. Honorary pallbearers are Galon Allison, David Earl Daves, John Michael Van Horn and Lee Van Horn.

The family asks that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to the New Hope Cemetery Fund, c/o Mrs. Annette Mills, 504 Jones Street, Winona, MS 38967.
