Mary Virginia Patman Curry passed away May 11, 2016 at her home in Waxahachie. She was born July 2, 1923 in Arlington TX to Luther John and Maybelle Dewberry Patman. She was a graduate of Waxahachie High School and attended Texas Woman's University.

Having been married to Hal L. Curry for 60 years, the early years were spent living in Jacksonville, FL; Norfolk, VA; Boston, MS; Philadelphia, PA and Newport, RI as a young Naval Officer's wife. She was a member of College Street Church of Christ and for many years was a Primary Bible school teacher while living in Dallas and Glenview, IL. Also, she served as a Brownie Scout and Girl Scout leader for several years in Dallas and Glenview, IL.

Mrs. Curry was honored as First Lady of Waxahachie in 1989. In 1990 she was honored for membership in the Waxahachie High School Hall of Fame for her community service.

She is a member and served as President of the Shakespeare Club, City Federation of Women's Clubs and Heirloom Club. Also a member of the Century Club and a former member of the Mothers' Club serving these clubs in many duties. She is a former member of Waxahachie Historic, Inc., Friends of Sims Library and Ellis County Museum. She was honored as Outstanding Clubwoman of the Year by the Shakespeare, Heirloom and Mothers' clubs.

She served as Texas Federation of Women's Clubs Trinity District President

In 1996-98. For 22 years served on the Texas Federation of Women's Board of Directors in Austin, winning many awards for her dedicated service. She was honored in 2002 as a State Life Member of Texas Federation of Women's Clubs.

Mrs. Curry had served her community in the past with pride thru the Chamber of Commerce, Y.M.C.A. Fund Drive, member of Ellis County Building Woman's Board, docent for Gingerbread Trail, Waxahachie Independent School Strategic Planning Committee.

A great love for her family stimulated her to write a book on Genealogy of the Patman Families for her loved ones and with her late husband hosted the Patman annual reunion meeting for many years. She was a loving caregiver for her daughter Deborah for 38 years following the tragic automobile accident.

For several years Virginia served as a full time associate for the family business, Hal Curry & Associates, Inc., as a shareholder and secretary of the corporation.

She was preceded in death by her husband and her parents. She is survived by her two daughters, Deborah Swofford and Donna Curry; brother and sister-in-law, Donald and Mary Patman; nephew and his wife Steve and Joyce Patman; niece Lori Vantreese; two double first cousins, Marion Cato and Louise Kropff; also survived by nephew Sam Reynolds and niece Glenda Florence; great nephews and great nieces and several cousins.

To honor Virginia's wishes, instead of visitation, she will be having a graveside service only at 11AM, Monday May 16, 2016 at the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery with Mr. Walter Buchanan officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Brown Street Church of Christ "Thursday Meal Program", the Ellis County Women's Building, WHS Ex Student's Scholarship Fund or to the charity of your choice.
