On Thursday morning, Reba McNabb, 90, of Plains slipped the surly bonds of Earth to touch the face of God, ending her long battle with COPD, dementia, and macular degeneration.

She was born in Roscoe, Texas, March 25, 1920, to W.C. and Loneta Patman. As a child she loved playing with her siblings and cousins on her parents' cotton farm in Meadow. She talked often of trips to Lubbock in a horse drawn wagon, going to the top of the Pioneer Hotel on Broadway and looking west towards Texas Tech, which was then the outskirts of town. At the age of 19, she married Tommie McNabb and moved to his turkey farm in Hot Springs, N.M. A year later, her cherished son Tommie Darryl was born. She became a licensed beautician and moved to Hatch, N.M., where she raised Darryl, whom she was very proud to say was not only her son but also her friend. She made certain that Darryl and his many buddies had enjoyable childhoods, and she was always there to support her son in everything he did. She moved to Plains, Texas, in 1976, where she enjoyed jobs at Ross Irrigation, the Glenn Cleveland ranch, and later served as a driver for the Senior Citizens' van. She was a talented seamstress who enjoyed quilting and crocheting. She had a wonderful sense of humor and was a great storyteller. But, she will be remembered most for the unwavering love and support she provided to her family.

Her parents; her two sisters, Loretta Watson and Evelyn Patman; and her beloved cousin, Zellie McAllister, preceded her in death.

Those left to cherish her memory include two brothers, L.D. and Ivan Patman of Lovington, N.M.; her son, Darryl, and daughter, Pat McNabb of Plains, Texas; grandchildren, Tommie and Grady McNabb; and two great-grand kitties, Sib and Scout.

Funeral services were held at the First United Methodist Church in Plains on Sunday, Dec. 19, with the Rev. Gene Hudgins officiating. Burial was at Plains Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Mark A. Jones Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to Home Hospice in Andrews, Texas.
