Joyce Olive Allen, age 87, of Mattawan, MI went to be with her Lord on Tuesday, June 2, 2015.
Joyce was born in Detroit on December 29, 1927, the daughter of the late Fred and Emma Patterson.
She worked in food service for Portage Northern High School and then worked for Red Lobster for seventeen years. She loved spending time with her family, who were the love of her life. Joyce enjoyed gardening, bird watching and loved all animals. She also enjoyed decorating her home for the holidays.
She was married to William Allen in 1943; he preceded her in death in 1971.
She is survived by three children, Robert (Susan) Allen of West Richland, WA, Dennis (Karen) Allen of Lawton, MI and Kathy (Mark) Alwine of Mattawan, MI; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild arriving soon; two nieces and three nephews. Joyce was preceded in death by one grandson; two brothers and one sister.
Friends may visit with the family from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, June 4, 2015 at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 S. 9th St., Kalamazoo, MI 49009. Funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, June 5, 2015 at St. John Bosco Catholic Church, 23830 Front St., Mattawan, MI 49071. Rev. Fr. Mathew Illikattil will officiate with interment in Mt. Ever-Rest Memorial Park.
