ELEANOR MAY GALE

Eleanor May (Pennington) Gale, 78, of Heislerville passed peacefully into the arms of our loving God on Tuesday, Dec. 14, 2010. She has now met her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ face to face.

Eleanor fought a yearlong battle with an aggressive form of breast cancer bravely with the love and prayerful support of her family, friends and Christians worldwide. Mrs. Gale was a 45-year member of Heislerville United Methodist Church; formerly a member of Fourth United Methodist Church in Millville. Her love for children was manifest in her many years as a Sunday school teacher, vacation Bible school director, Scout leader and room mother; generations of children love her simply as "Mom and Mom-mom Gale." She served Heislerville United Methodist Church in many capacities, none she loved more than as a member of the church choir or as founder of the food closet. An avid Philadelphia Phillies and Eagles fan, she also was a member of the West Jersey Grove Association (Malaga Camp).

She leaves behind her husband of 61 years, John Gale Sr.; six children, Eleanor J. Gale and Mona (Paul) Mauro of Vineland, Gladys (Ronald) Callahan and Danny Sr. (Patricia) of Heislerville, John Jr. (Hilda Ann) of Eldora and Joseph (Vicki) of Fernley, Nev.; and 13 grandchildren, Edward (Jennifer) Robinson and Danny Jr. of Virginia, Diana (Edward) Carroll and Andrea, Samantha and Michaela Mauro of Vineland, John Paul (Kim), Ronald (Amanda) Callahan Jr., and Melissa (Matthew) Hand of Heislerville, Joseph Jr. (Brandy) of North Carolina, Bethany (Phillip) Shultz of Oregon, Cheryl (Joseph) Opuszynski of Ocean City and Krista Callahan of Florida; as well as granddaughter-in-law, Jennifer of Idaho; 11 great-grandchildren, Autumn, Sean, Ben, Mathieu, Ian, Caleb, Evan, Emma, Lily, Evelyn and Nathan; with three additional great-grandsons to arrive this spring. She also is survived by three sisters, Isabelle Locker, Rose Coulton and Carol Hooven; two brothers, Andrew "Jack" and Benjamin "Frank"; two sisters-in-law, Doris (George) Freeman and Helen Gale; as well as many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents, Harry and Isabelle (Emory) Pennington; her "second" mother, Rose Anna Pennington; and two brothers, Herbert and Harry "Junie" Pennington. Her love for God and her family will be her legacy.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Heislerville United Methodist Church, Main St. Heislerville, with the Rev. William Hess officiating.

Interment will be in the church cemetery.

Viewings will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday and 10 to 11 a.m. Monday at the church.
