Woman Whose Ancestors Fought Indians Coming Home in County, Dies at 94

Eldersville, Jan 15--Mrs Nancy McClurg Noah, aged 94 oldest resident of Jefferson township and one of Washington County's most aged citizens, died in the home of her son, Joseph McClurg, of this place, this morning at 8:03 o'clock, after an illness due to her greatly advanced years.
Mrs Noah's ancestry on both sides included not only pioneer settlers of this section, but in the nation as well. Her father's family, the Perrines, were among the first settlers of New Jersey, Daniel Perrine coming on the ship Phillip with Governor Carteret as one of the 18 aides selected to assist him in establishing a colony.
Her grandfather came to Washington county in 1770, having several engagements with the Indians. When they reached Redstone, now Brownsville, the Indians attacked and Mrs Perrine's sister was killed and a young child brutally murdered by the redskins.
A daughter of Benjamin and Sarah Criss Perrine, Mrs Noah was born July 2, 1834, a short distance from Eldersville on Harmon creek. She married Joseph McClurg, whose death occurred in 1854. Afterwards she married George Noah, who died many years ago. Following the death of her daughter, Joseph McClurg, who had located in the west, returned to make a home for his mother, carefully ministering to her needs.
Mrs Noah was a lifelong member of the Methodist Protestant church of this place where the funeral services will be held Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Interment will be in the cemetery here.
