William Hayne Perry
Birth: Jun. 9, 1839
Death: Jul. 7, 1902

US Congressman. Born in Greenville, South Carolina, he graduated from Furman University in 1857, graduated from Harvard University 1859, studied law, was admitted to the bar in 1861 and commenced to practice law in Greenville, South Carolina. During the Civil War, he served as a Lieutenant in the Confederate Cavalry. After the war, he was a member of the South Carolina State constitutional convention in 1865, a member of the South Carolina State House of Representatives (1865-66), solicitor of the eighth judicial circuit of South Carolina (1868-72 and served in the South Carolina State Senate, (1880-84). In 1885, he was elected as a Democrat to the Forty-ninth, Fiftieth and Fifty-first Congresses, serving until 1891. He declined to be a candidate for re-nomination and resumed the practice of law until his death at age 63 in Greenville, South Carolina. (bio by: John "J-Cat" Griffith)
