Anning R. Prall, 69, of Glen Spey, New York, a descendent of one of Staten Island's first families and a former sewing center co-owner, died Saturday at Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla, New York.

The Prall family first settled Staten Island in the 1700s. Mr. Prall is the grandson of Anning S. Prall, who from 1923 to 1931 was the Staten Island congressman and was also appointed chairman of the Federal Communications Commission. Prall Intermediate School, West Brighton, is named after him.

Born in Westerleigh, Mr. Prall moved to Great Kills in 1971. He moved to Glen Spey in the Catskill Mountains after his retirement in 1991.
A graduate of Port Richmond High School, Mr. Prall served as a private in the Army during the Korean War, stationed in Japan.

Mr. Prall was co-owner of the Staten Island Sewing Center Inc. from 1947 to 1977, which was located first in Port Richmond and then in New Dorp.

He then owned Karmelkorn Shoppes Inc., a confectionery store in the Staten Island Mall from 1977 until his retirement in 1991.

Mr. Prall was a member of the Staten Island Marksmen Rifle Club.

He was an avid fisherman and boating enthusiast who enjoyed traveling to various locations in Pennsylvania.

"He was the most wonderful person to come into our lives," said his sister-in-law, Alice Erdmann.

Mr. Prall is survived by his wife of twenty years, the former Frances Erdmann; one son, Richard Tope; three daughters, Marissa, Michelle, and Alice May Tope; and six grandchildren.

The funeral services will be held tomorrow at 11:15 a.m. in the Matthew Funeral Home, Willowbrook.
Burial will follow in the Prall family plot in Moravian Cemetery, New Dorp.
