Bess - or Bessie as she was mostly called - was the youngest daughter of Clyde Gladstone Pruden & Eliza Frances Herrell. She had no middle name, but reported to have been named after an ancestor named Elizabeth but called Bess.
Clyde Pruden was a conductor on the L&N and his run was from Knoxville to Cincinnati. Rollie Creaser was a brakeman on the NYC with a run from Indianapolis to Cincinnati. Both ate at the same cafe near Union terminal in Cincinnati and became friends. Pruden, in true southern style, said to Creaser "I'll get you passes to come visit" and Rollie & son Marion took him up on the offer. That's how Bess Pruden and Marion Creaser met and subsequently eloped 7/3/1935 the next year and were married in Clinton, Anderson Co, Tennessee.
She had a mild case of polio as a child but that probably resulted in a malformation of the pelvic area that prevented her from having a natural childbirth. After many hours of unproductive labor, the doctors finally realized the pelvic would not give to allow a natural birth and performed an emergency Caesarian operation for the birth of her first child, Beverly Ann, in 1936.
Cautioned that another child birth might prove fatal, it was only through the counseling of a doctor some 8 years later that "times have changed" and a second child, Donna was born in 1944.
She collected salt & pepper shakers and made many pen-pal friends that she communicated with for over 30 years. She began caring for children in her home and was known as "Granny Bess" to her many children who she treated as family, not paying customers.
Dementia brought on by earlier strokes took her from her loving family much too soon.

She was married July 3, 1935 to Walter Marion Creaser in Clinton, Tenn., and he survives; with one daughter, Mrs. Richard (Donna) Harwood, Cupertino, Calif.; one sister, Gladys Allen, Jellico, Tenn.; and two grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Beverly Creaser; three brothers and one sister.
The Rev. Henry Hawkins and the Rev. Rand Hooton will conduct a memorial service at 1 p.m., Saturday, in the Burney Baptist Church.
Burial will be in the Milford Cemetery.
