READ, Nancy Janet
Nancy passed away peacefully at her home on Sat., Sept. 28 with her loving husband by her side after a long hard fight against cancer. She was born in Sacramento on Feb. 4, 1930, to Richard and Marie Spore. After graduating from McClatchy High School in 1948, she attended the University of California at Berkeley where she was one of four who majored in sculpture. She was a member of the Tri Delta Sorority, she loved those years and the people she met became lifelong friends. She met Roderick in their sophomore year of high school and became best friends. They married in 1951 and had six children, Mark (Patty), Paul (Becky), Richard and Roderick (who greeted her in heaven), Erik (Stacey), and Benedict - what fun she had with the boys. Her grandchildren include Jason (Karla), Richard (Adam), Stephen (Jennifer), David (Shannon), Mary, Megan, Roderick (Laura), Riley and Sean. Great children Alex, Jake, and Allison. Few people are fortunate enough to see a gang this large. Nancy was a proud Catholic converting while a student at Berkeley, through the guidance of the Newman Center Director, Paulist Fr. Walsh. Her boys went to St. Ignatius where the hot dog lunches were one of her favorite events. She was a Den mother for the Boy Scouts and taught high school CCD. The entire family loved her completely and know they will see her again. A funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, October 5, 2013 at 11am at St. Ignatius. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Nancy's memory to Mercy Foundation to support the Sisters of Mercy Hermitage. Please send your donations to Mercy Foundation, 3400 Data Drive, Rancho Cordova, CA. 95630 or call (916) 851-2700. Remembrances may be made at www.gormleyandsons.com
