Daughter of the late Lutheran and Montine Cleghorn Reed, she was also preceded in death by a sister, Sandra Reed Spencer, and by a brother-in-law, Jack Benefield. She was survived by her husband, Johnny M. Benefield; daughter, Sandy Ward Simmons; and an extended family of relatives and friends. She was retired from Wachovia as a banker. She attended Chicopee Baptist Church. Her funeral was held on November 16, 2014, with The Rev. Darin Vogt and The Rev. Dick Shore officiating.
