Joan E. Burr, 77, of Cabot, passed away Thursday, Sept. 27, 2012, at the Good Samaritan Hospice Unit at Concordia in Cabot, after a long battle with cancer. Born April 12, 1935, in Oakland Township, Butler County, she was the daughter of Major L. Reeves Sr. and Emily Coleman Reeves. Joan had dedicated her life to being a caregiver, having worked as a registered nurse for Allegheny Valley Hospital from 1964 until 1992. She served as manager and volunteer for 23 years at the South East Senior Center. She was a member of Thorn Creek United Methodist Church and attended Cabot United Methodist Church. She was an avid reader and enjoyed playing cards. Surviving are two daughters, Marian Campbell, of Butler, and Judy Forbes and Andrew, of Manlius, N.Y.; five stepsons, Howard Burr and Diane, of McKees Rocks, Donald Burr, of Anthony, N.M., Kenneth Burr and Kathy, of Zelienople, Timothy Burr and Gail, of Piedmont, S.D., Dennis Burr and Ruby, of Vallejo, Calif.; two stepdaughters, Marie McCullough and Joseph, of Coraopolis, and Nancy Burr, of Gaffney, S.C.; two brothers, Major Reeves, of Ridgeway, and Charles "Buddy" Reeves, of Indianapolis, Ind.; two sisters-in-law, Joyce Reeves and Suzy Reeves, both of Chicora; 16 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; an infant son, Jody Miller; husband, Howard Burr; former husband, Dean Miller; and two brothers, Donald Reeves and William Reeves. Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 30, 2012, at FOX FUNERAL HOME INC., Saxonburg. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Oct. 1, 2012 at the Haven II Chapel at Concordia Lutheran Ministries with the Rev. Jack Hartman officiating. Interment will follow in Allegheny County Memorial Park.
