TEWKSBURY--Lillian F. Reilly Ballou, age 86, matriarch of a large well known Tewksbury family, died Thursday afternoon, November 11, 2010, at the Southern New Hampshire Medical Center in Nashua, following a long period of declining health.

She was the beloved wife of the late Joseph F. Ballou Sr., who died in 1983.

She was born in Somerville, December 18, 1923, one of six children of Arthur Reilly and Esther Underhill Reilly. She was raised in Somerville, graduated from Somerville High School, and lived in Tewksbury for twenty-five years while raising her family of eleven children. As a resident of Tewksbury, she was a communicant of St. William's Church. She retired to Nashua in 2003.

In her later years she worked as a secretary at the Middlesex Community College.

She was also preceded in death by an infant son, David Ballou and son, Timothy Ballou who died in 1979; sisters, Anna Kraus, Dolly Reilly and Janet Reilly; a brother, Arthur Reilly Jr.

She is survived by six sons, Joseph Ballou Jr. of Temple, NH, Stephen (Joanne O'Brien) Ballou of Exeter, NH, Gary Ballou of Nashua, NH, with whom she made her home, Jonathan (Nancy Bowler) Ballou of Oregon, WI, Robert Ballou of Hudson, MA and Michael Ballou and his spouse Gerrilyn Moriarty of Hollis, NH; four daughters, Priscilla (Mrs. Byron) Zakos of Hudson, NH, Louise 'Terry' (Mrs. Anthony) Ruggerio of Londonderry, NH, Susan Fiorenza and her fiancé Leo Rochon of Londonderry, NH, and Maryellen (Mrs. Terry) Brailsford of Hudson, NH; twenty-seven grandchildren; thirty-eight great-grandchildren; a sister, Claire McNally of Woburn; and many nieces and nephews.

Her Funeral Mass was held Tuesday, November 16, 2010 in St. William's Church in Tewksbury. Burial followed at Tewksbury Cemetery.
