MARIA ELENA REZA MARES Our beloved mother has gone to rest in the arms of our Savior Jesus Christ on October 4, 2014. She passed peacefully at the home of her son John M. Mares of San Antonio, where she was being cared for. Born on Aug 17, 1916 in Las Minas del Seco, Eagle Pass, Texas. She was a longtime resident of the Galveston, Texas City, and Eagle Pass areas. She was very involved with her community, and lifelong member of Saint Mary's of the Miraculous Medal Church and took part in Las Damas of Guadalupe.

Our mother was full of life and energy. She had a welcoming smile and compassionate heart, and made it her duty to care for others. Some of her passions and talents were sewing beautiful fabrics, or spending time in her garden. Everything she touched bloomed. She had a love for canaries and enjoyed listening to them sing. She herself had a beautiful voice and shared her love of music and singing in her later years. Her biggest enjoyment was to be a devoted wife and loving mother. Family was very important to her and also brought her so much joy.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Juan Reza and Refugia Ramirez Reza, her beloved husband Juan Mares Blanco, her son Carlos David Torres Reza, her brother Cristobal Reza, and Martin Miranda and sisters Emilia Reza, Maria Reza, followed by Anastasia Esquibel, Manuela Hernades, Carmen Miranda, and Dolares Miranda.

She is survived by her children, Cecilia Reza Charalambous, Mary Susie Mares Sauceda, John Mares, Felix Mares, and Jose Luis Mares. She was surrounded by love from numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Spiros Charalambous, Kostas Charalambous, Marcos Charalambous, Johnny Sauceda, David Sauceda and Josh Sauceda.

Honorary Pallbearers will be David Daniel and Reinaldo Daniel.

A Mass of Christian burial will be 1:00 p.m., Friday, October 10, 2014 at St. Mary of The Miraculous Medal Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Forest Park East Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7:00 p.m., Thursday, October 9, 2014 at Emken-Linton Funeral Home with a Rosary at 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
