Vena Faye Richard, 88, passed away and went on to be with the Lord on June 30, 2017. Vena was born to the late Ira and Lillie White in Rienzi, MS on February 15, 1929. She was born into a loving family and was the youngest of 6 children. Vena grew up and graduated from high school where she ultimately met her husband. They had a son, Tommie Lee Gillespie. She worked briefly in the community before moving with family for a short time to Cleveland, OH and ultimately setting roots in Gary, IN. Vena worked faithfully in the Steel Mill in Gary and was a very dedicated member in her church St. John Baptist Church for over 50 years. She loved her church community and was very involved in various ministries including M&R usher and nurses ministries for over 40 years. Vena is survived by her daughter-in-law Debbie; three grandchildren Jeremy, Matthew and Holly, and a host of nephews, nieces and friends. Visitation Friday July 7, 2017 9-11:00 a.m. Funeral service immediately following at 11:00 a.m. all services at St. John Baptist Church 2457 Massachusetts Street. Reverend R.E. Robinson officiating. Interment Evergreen Memorial Park.
