She was born October 28, 1925 in Franklin County to George and Florence Marie Allender Ruf. She was the fifth of nine children.
A graduate of Brookville High School, Class of 1944, following graduation she was employed by the U.S. Naval Inspection Office in Springfield, Ohio as a clerk-stenographer until 1946. In 1959, she was employed as an accountant by the Fayette County Welfare Department, later transferring to the Franklin County Welfare Department as a caseworker, retiring in 1975.
On February 9, 1946, she was married to Harold L. Brockman of Connersville. Mr. Brockman died December 9, 2002.
She was a member of the Lambda Chi Omega Sorority; the First Presbyterian Church, where she served as Deacon and Elder; the Thursday Bridge Club, and was a frequent bridge player at the Elks Club; a member of the Fayette County Republicans Women's Club, serving as treasurer and presiding secretary; served as Secretary of the Fayette County Republican Central Committee and precinct committeeman for 30 years.
She is survived by: one son, Mark Brockman and his wife, Joan of Connersville; two grandsons: Michael Brockman of Greenwood, IN and Ben Brockman of Phoenix, Arizona; two granddaughters: Jennifer Brockman and Adrienne Brockman, both of Bloomington, IN; one great-granddaughter, Michaela Brockman of Shoals, IN; two brothers, Les Ruf and his wife, Pat of Blooming Grove and Harold Ruf of Connersville; two sisters, Minnie Lee Baker and Geneva Rowland all of Everton and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.
She is preceded in death by a son: Robin Lee Brockman, who died November 19, 1998; her parents, three brothers: Howard Ruf, Omar Ruf and Russell E. Ruf; and one sister: Nina Wingate.
Funeral services will be conducted by by Reverend Martha Williams-Jordan at 12 Noon on Saturday, December 17, 2005, where friends may call from 10 AM until the time of services at Miller, Moster, Robbins Funeral Home. Burial will be made in the Laurel North Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the First Presbyterian Church Building Fund.
