Madera funeral held for Helen Maxine Harpster
MADERA - Funeral services under the direction of the Sierra Funeral Chapel were held for Helen Maxine Harpster, a former resident of Downey for 48 years, who died in Madera October 7.
She was 88, and had lived in Madera five years after moving from Downey.
She was an active member of St. Raymond's Catholic Church in Downey, and was a cafeteria manager for 20 years for the Downey Unified School District. She married her husband, Albert, in 1928. He preceded her in death.
She is remembered as a loving mother and grandmother, a great homemaker who excelled at sewing, knitting and cooking. Survivors include her daughter, Jacquelyn Johnson; granddaughters Kelli Spurgeon and Shaun Spurgeon; and a great-granddaughter Presley Rainey.
