Newell E. Sanders, 62, 2909 S. Hackley St., died Tuesday morning at Ball Memorial Hospital. Born in Woodberry, Tenn., he came to Muncie 37 years ago. He was employed by Penn Central Railroad until he was forced to retire because of poor health a year ago.

He is survived by his wife, Carol; a daughter, Mrs. Joseph Davis, Farmland; a son, Newell E. Sanders, Jr., Carson, Calif.; three stepdaughters, Mrs. Robert Norwood, Wilmington, Calif., Mrs. Kenney Clendenon, Muncie, and Mrs. Bill Lennington, Houston; four stepsons, Andrew, Donald, and George Fluhr, all of Muncie, and William Fluhr, San Diego; a sister, Mrs. Electa Ann Stacy, Woodberry, Tenn.; three brothers, Savage Sanders, Woodberry, Tenn., Odie Sanders, Racine, Wisc., and Orville Goins, Indianapolis; 32 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

Services will be conducted in Meeks Mortuary at 10 a.m. Friday with interment following in Elm Ridge Cemetery. Friends may call at the mortuary after 2 p.m. Thursday and before services on Friday.
