Edna Grace Barr, daughter of Clinton Chester Sanders and Grace Edna Fletcher Sanders, was born November 2, 1921 in Clarke County, Iowa. She passed away April 25, 2007 at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines at the age of 85.
A lifelong resident of Clarke County, Edna attended Country School (Ward #8). She was united in marriage to Thomas Samuel Barr on December 7, 1938 in Princeton, Missouri. Two children blessed this union – Richard and Sandra.
Edna was a very devoted mother, grandmother and homemaker, but she also was a business woman and enjoyed doing the bookkeeping for the family construction business. She helped with the fieldwork, was a mechanic and assisted her husband and son with veterinary duties. She loved horses and as a child, she broke her father's work horses to ride. She was often known to ride the horses standing up which didn't please her parents. She sewed lots of clothing and also crocheted, enjoyed flower gardening and playing the organ. She also thoroughly enjoyed taking her grandkids fishing. In later years, she enjoyed the television and always looked forward to going to dinner nearly every Saturday with the family. She was a member of Leslie Ladies Auxiliary.
Edna was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Tom; son, Richard Thomas Barr; brothers, Albert Sanders, Alfred "Pete" Sanders, Calvern Sanders, Forrest "Shorty" Sanders, and Harold Sanders.
She is survived by her daughter, Sandra Barr Ritter and husband Gary of Osceola; daughter-in-law, Kathy Barr of Osceola; grandchildren, Robin Barr Linskens (Gerard) of Osceola, Major Eric Barr (Julieann) of Tucson, AZ, Shawni Martin Hord (Scott) of Osceola, Lance Martin (Julie) of Osceola; great grandchildren, Blake and Brooke Shultice & Megan Linskens of Osceola, Alexis, Eisen and Braeden Barr of Tucson, AZ , J.D. Hermosillo and Sydney Hord of Osceola, Madison and Alyssa Martin of Osceola; sister, Frances Fouche of Osceola; brother, Paul Sanders and wife Willene of Osceola; many nieces and nephews, other relatives and a host of friends. She will also be greatly missed by her family pets, Lady, Baby and Taz.
