Services: 11 a.m. Friday, June 30, St. Joseph Catholic Church, West Liberty. Visitation: 5-7 p.m. today, with a 7 p.m. Christian wake service, Henderson-Barker Funeral Home, West Liberty.
Grandview, Iowa - Geraldine "Gerry" Atilano, 71, formerly of West Liberty, died Tuesday, June 27, 2006, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City, after an extended illness.
The Rev. Dennis Martin will officiate. Burial will be at Mount Calvary Cemetery, West Liberty.
A memorial fund has been established.
Mrs. Atilano was born Aug. 4, 1934, in Harrisburg, Pa., the daughter of Charles and Bessie Bartley Sanders. She married Flavio Atilano on Jan. 19, 1971, in west Liberty. He died in 1999.
She had been employed by Thomas and Betts, Iowa City, for several years and most recently worked at Twin Oaks Restaurant, Muscatine, retiring in 1991.
she was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. She liked to spend time with her daughter, Janet, granddaughter, Gerry and all her family and friends. She will be dearly missed by all including her dog, Bruno. She enjoyed sitting in her chair working her puzzle book or watching Law and Order.
Survivors include five daughters, Janet Zaehringer of Grandview, Tammy Ramirez and husband John and Connie Garcia, all of Muscatine, Shirley Churchill of Holland, Mich. and Betty Fankhauser and husband Dick of Des Moines; three sons, Robert Sanders of Weston, W. Va., Mark Jaynes of Des Moines and Larry Sanders of East Moline, Ill.; a sister, Edna Crutchman of Uniontown, Pa.; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers; and two sisters.
